A hole lotta chaff for some winter wheat.

One read is just not sufficient for a book so full of wisdom. What amazes me about Kierkegaards writing is that it is at once challenging and incredibly patienti.e., he recognizes that, in the words of David Foster Wallace, the truth will set you free, but not before it is done with you. Put yet another way, Kierkegaard has a very compassionate view of his readers, which is appropriate given the compassionate lens he urges his readers to look through. Christian theology at its best. It is written philosophically, so anyone who is interested in philosophy, particularly existentialism, will enjoy it. I think anyone can find inspiration in the book, including people who aren't Christians.

From the midst of a complacently Christian culture, Kierkegaard sought to make Christianity weird againand by God, he succeeded. It may be difficult to convert the heathen, even more so to convert the apostate; but the greatest challenge of all is to convert someone to a religion they think they already follow. This was a great read, would highly recommend.This book is difficult at times, the translated language at times makes things a bit more difficult than it otherwise would be, as well as end notes. (who does end notes anyway? heathen, that's who!), But more seriously, this book is difficult because of how Kierkegaard speaks of the heart and the demands of God that we love another as He has first loved us. Taking the Lord's commands at even a surface level reading is convicting, but Kierkegaard

A series of profound meditations on Christian love. If you never in your life read anything else by Kierkegaard, you should read this book. And then read it again.

"...the task is not: to find the lovable object; but the task is: to find the object already given or chosen--lovable, and to be able to continue finding him lovable, no matter how he becomes changed" (158).
