I was entertained here in Bess' dilemma over 2 boys, and not on the mystery of the sky phantom. It was a nice change of scenery for Nancy though, and a change of activities for her (here she learns to fly a plane).



Love these for a little escapism

Another fun Nancy Drew mystery. This time Nancy is taking flying lessons when she discovers something wonky is going on. Nancy and friends solve another mystery, but this one isn't as good as many of the others.

2019 readI loved the initial start of the book. Nancy is taking flying lessons while Bess and George are vacationing at a dude ranch. During a flying lesson Bess and George point to Nancy and her instructor to a plane with a missing pilot. Also at the same time a palomino horse was missing. I was immediately hooked! I found out early on that the higher the series numbers go, the worse Nancy Drew books would be. Not all are completely hopeless; but I guess I'm now reading them through the eyes of a grown-up who, although still likes reading Nancy Drew, becomes less enthused with how the mystery and its solution was written.The Sky Phantom, though, is one of those occasional ones in the series where the villain was not quite outright obvious (even if the apparent accomplice was). Classic. That's all I have to say. 5/5 stars. This book has been staring at me on my shelf for a while, and I decided it's time to marathon some Nancy Drew books. Although this was not my top/favorite Nancy Drew book ever, the plot was still amazingly solid and the action was incredible!
