Narrative Toward Books The Story of Mr Sommer

A boy's village childhood with all the traditional attributes - father, mother, brother, sister, a house on a lake, tree-climbing, going to the races, music lessons, a bicycle, a crush on a girl in the class - is bedevilled by the mystifying appearances of the eccentric Mr. Sommer. Moving through the landscape in silent haste, like a man possessed, with his empty rucksack and his long, odd-looking walking stick, Mr Sommer runs like a black thread through the boy's days.

Discuss Appertaining To Books The Story of Mr Sommer
Mr. Summer's Story was a very refreshing read. I picked it out from a shelf in the library because it was skinny, short, and plain, and I read it because I discovered it had pictures. I grabbed my attention by being inconspicuous, and I wonder if this reverse psychology was intentional. Anyways, the story of Mr. Summer is heart breaking and simple, and it is one of the rare books tat I would read again, and I am planning on buying it. I have also developed an interest in the author, and am

The clean, simple language through which this magical childhood story unfolds is as smooth as silk, and elegant as German prose can be. Reading Susskind's book in the original German was like strolling down familiar byways that I had first know when studying this versatile and highly literary language. .Good. So simple, so well made...

nobody tried to talk to Mr Summer. :(

I'd read nothing but non-fiction for a good few months so when I first picked this up I found the gear change to much and put it back down after only a few pages. Feeling slightly more reflective later in the year I picked it up again. I'm glad I did. This is beautifully written and full of wise allegory.

A cross between Goscinnys Nicholas and Backmans A Man Called Ove. The candid narrator and the mystifying Mr Sommer - two halves make a whole. Maybe representing the conflict within each one of us. Contradiction, paradox, incongruity. I don't know. This novella has so much feels.

Having really enjoyed Perfume I was looking for The Pigeon at the library (no luck) and I grabbed this, never having heard of it. Great find. Its beautifully written and illustrated. I fell in love with the boy. Every little story of his life was so real - I cannot forget that Fsharp!! Though it was very melancholy and a mystery in part - Süskind wrote it so well Id have been sorry if that were left out. Fully recommended. And very short.
