Description As Books The Forgotten Legion (Forgotten Legion Chronicles #1)
An epic Roman novel which follows three men and one woman bound in servitude to the Republic. Romulus and Fabiola are twins, born into slavery after their mother is raped by a drunken nobleman. At thirteen-years-old, they are sold — Romulus to gladiator school, Fabiola into prostitution where she will catch the eye of one of the most powerful men in Rome. Tarquinius is an Etruscan warrior and soothsayer, and an enemy of Rome, but doomed to fight for the Republic in the Forgotten Legion. Brennus is a Gaul; the Romans killed his entire family. He rises to become one of the most famous and feared gladiators of his day — and mentor to the boy slave, Romulus, who dreams night and day of escape and revenge. The lives of the four are bound together into a marvellous story which begins in a Rome riven by corruption, violence and politics, and ends far away at the very border of the known world.Rating Appertaining To Books The Forgotten Legion (Forgotten Legion Chronicles #1)

This is a complicated five star rating for this book. Ben tells a good story with a unique point of view not seen in many books set in this time period. The story has an obvious plot and the book is well organized. My main concern and issue about this book was that little effort was put into creating a connection between the characters and the reader, in my opinion this is a fatal mistake. If the reader does not care about the characters the reader wont care what happens to the characters andI was struggling with the cast chopping in the first third of this book. Actually, I was struggling to connect with the characters and the events. Isn't this meant to be legionary stuff? What I really appreciated was how the story takes a sudden left turn and finally propels the story forward. From there I was on board as the pace picked up until the close.
If you enjoy historical adventures set during the time of the Roman Legions (Julius Caesar timeframe), you might enjoy The Forgotten Legion, the 1st book in Ben Kane's Forgotten Legion Chronicles. If you don't like violence in books, you might have to think about it.The story focuses on 4 people. Romulus and Fabiola are twins and slaves of land-owner Gemellus. He is awful (but that's not unique in this story), abusing the twins' mother regularly and just mistreating his slaves. Tarquinius is an

Reasons Why I DNF:1) The narrator, Michael Praed, needed some clamps on his sensitive areas and someone to flip the switch to give him a bit of energy. It was a dull reading, and his pace was slow, so it felt like things were never moving along. Yeah, yeah, I know. How could Robin of Sherwood & Prince Michael of Moldavia suck ass?!?! Well, there should be some kind of retribution for that stupid Dynasty wedding bomb cliffie.2) Actually things didn't move along. The story was choppy and very
The Forgotten Legion series is one of the strongest series set in ancient Rome that has been produced to date. The scope of the series in length of years, geographical reach, depth of character and intertwining some of the most tumultuous and important events in the history of he world with the life story of a small number of fictional characters is phenomenal. As a series, it is impossible not to pick up the next book and read on...The first instalment (The Forgotten Legion) takes us into the
I really hated Fabiola and Romulass master. I like that Romulas forms a friendship with Brennus when he is sold to the school. I like how Brutus gets Fabiola and how in the end he frees her. I like how Tarquinius, Romulas, and Brennus meet on the battlefield and become fast friends. I like that Fabiola still remembers her twin when she is set free. I really enjoyed this book.
Story is pretty good. The only thing that bothered me was the prostitution thing. I know he is trying to make it as real as possible, but I can't seem to get the idea of child pornography out of my head. I mean, when he was describing the 14 year old protagonist sucking on a twenty year old guy's dick, I was like, whoa! Child pornography popped into my head. I know there must be other books that have this sort of content but I haven't gotten to it yet, but when I do, I will probably put it into
