The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence (Zodiac Legacy #1)
So, here's the premise: A villain wants to become a supervillain by tapping into the powers of the Chinese zodiac. And of course he chooses the dragon power because who wouldn't?! As he tries to tap into these powers, the attempt gets botched by a woman named Jasmine and they end up sharing the power of the dragon somehow while they each head up teams to oppose each other.
Meanwhile, the remaining 11 zodiac animal powers are sent out into the world to seek out inhabitants and sweet Kamala Khan, is this book trying hard to win a diversity prize by varying up the cultural backgrounds of the superpowered cast. While this is well meaning, it often plays into clichés and stereotypes.
Moving forward, while many of the associated animal powers make sense like the tiger imbuing strength (view spoiler)[ sadly, no it's not Charlie Sheen (hide spoiler)] or monkey having an acrobatic prowess, others are a stretch. The girl who gets the power of the rabbit is able to teleport (or make quantum leaps, my guess since the book weirdly omits that pun) and the woman who gets the snake power is able to mesmerize people like in The Jungle Book. But what was completely crazy what that the dude who gets the pig is able to talk to computers and then make them short-circuit. Huh? How is that related to a pig in any way?? Maybe if he had some gift for gluttony but not electronics.
There are a lot of illustrations within the book, and while they are nice to look at in a comic-booky kinda way, it's irritating that they are red-washed. Another thing is that the artwork is awkwardly placed at times and details are hidden in the page creases when the drawing overlaps to a second page. And not for nothing, but there were times when the art did not match the action that was happening at all, maybe they were completed before the final draft and some scenes were rewritten but it's a little sloppy to have those inconsistencies. Also, Liam looks like a paunchy middle aged man instead of a teen and it kept throwing me off to see how he was represented.
Overall, it has potential to be a start to a good series.
Wow, this book took me a lot longer than it should have. The story was good and exciting, but I can definitely see where it needs more development. I loved that little surprise at the end--it bodes well for the series! Also, the artwork was awesome. I kept turning the pages to see the art. Definitely a unique way of showing this type of story, but of course, Stan Lee is one of the creators, so what else is there to be expected? Happy reading!
This was a nice start, very elaborated and it helped me know the characters as well as the backround of this story...I was very intruiged as I really like whatever has to do with animals spirit. The art was full of colour and it was a fine job.The story didn't left loose ends which I really liked, but it build a cliffhanger that made me want to get my hands to the second comic *My thanks to Papercutz and Net galley for the free e-arc*

Too much action, not enough character development. It reads like a really long, underdeveloped origin story. Plus, it seems odd that each character from different countries magically speaks English--with no discussion of how that could even be possible. This felt to me like something that could have been a fun story but was not thought through nearly enough...and yet still managed to clock in at 500 pages.
Zodiac by the renown Stan Lee, along with Stuart Moore, and illustrated by Andie Tong, is a really good book! This book packs action from the start to the very end and there it promises more as the series is advertised as a trilogy, and thank goodness, because you will be yelling for more, just as I am. I can't wait to find out what happens to Steven, Jasmine, Carlos, Roxanne, Liam, Duane, and Kim, not to mention Maxwell and his goons. But I am ahead of myself, let me start a bit earlier in the
Wow ended up being so good 😊
I will not be finishing this trilogy, and given the exponential decline in reviews the following books have, I'm not the only one with this thought. This books disjointed storyline, random epiphanies, and total lack of character development fell so flat, I almost threw it on the DNF pile. I only trudged on as each time I nearly stopped, the story threw out a tantalizing bit about Steven discovering his Asian American heritage. It left me disappointed. The book writes like an action film, without

3.5 stars I picked this up on a book binge at B&N (don't judge, you know you do it from time to time too). There was a display in the children's section (see the judgement thingy above, cuz again, you know you peruse there too) and I decided to give it a shot, partially because of the cover and description but mostly because of Stan Lee. Why? Because STAN LEE, that's why! #reasons
